There was a horizontal line in the check-box 'do not check spelling' - clicked it, went to a tick, clicked again, changed to a clear box - set the language as described above and the spell check and grammar is working great now. You can check spelling, or both spelling and grammar, in documents such as TextEdit files or email messages. Grammar check does NOT work in “Word for Mac,” but spell check works fine. What I know and what I have done. Opening a file in Word on MS Windows results in many grammar check issues within a doc, but the same doc on Mac displays NO grammar issues. Same problem occurs for many different docs. OS X 10.11.3 Word for Mac 15.19.1 Verified settings in Word Preferences > Spelling and Grammar > Grammar [turned settings off, restarted Word, turned settings on again] Verified settings in Tools > Language: English (US) [changed to English (UK) and back to English (US)] Rebooted system. Searched for help from many MS and other help forums such as acb88dc2-4816-46fb-becb-651647c1daa9 Tools > Spelling & Grammar > does NOT display “Check Document” as mentioned at link above What should I do? Reinstall MS Word? ![]() Purchase third-party grammar check? Any third-party software recommendations for college English? If Grammar check is working you should see green squiggly lines instead of Red then Control Click or (Right click if you use a mouse) to bring up context menu. Choose Check Grammar and Grammar checker should open. To make sure in Word Preferences > Spelling and Grammar to Check on or off Desired and undesired items you want to the Grammar Checker to bring up. In 2011 you have More Grammar Style Choices: In 2016 you just have standard and even that is watered down. Not sure whether the other styles will return. If not, then College/University, Legal, Medical, and engineering communities will be on the War Path. I wish Mac users could get through someones thick skull that Mac users are serious users. And want as equal or better quality features, than PC Community. Mac are designed to get 'real' work done. We don't use a Mac just as a play toy or something to Dabble in. If Microsoft last that long, the only way we'll be able to get on the road to parity is when Bill Gates croaks. Maybe then, Microsoft can become independent thinkers and bring out products That everyone can use as equally well. For now if you have kept 2011, I'd suggest: • Saving you document you'v written in 2016 in.docx format. • Reopen in 2011 Word. • Go to To Tool Menu • Click check Spelling and Grammar. • Make sure you using correct Grammar style. • Then either make suggested correction or ignore. Best app for gmail for mac.
